Jimmy Garland Somers

    ELON — Jimmy Garland Somers, 62, formerly of Underwood Road, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Jefferson Family Care after a sudden illness.

    A native of Caswell County, he was the son of the late James Burch “Jim” Somers and the late Clarice Marie Lewis Somers. He was a former employee of Mabry Industries and attended Altamahaw Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman.

    Mr. Somers is survived by a daughter, Amy S. Willoughby and her husband Vaughn, of Elon; a son Mark Christopher Somers and his wife Kristie, of Marion, N.C.; two grandchildren, George Vaughn Willoughby and Lilly Rae Somers; two sisters, Sandra S. Dickey and her husband Freddy and Sherry S. Kylander and her husband David, all of Elon; a niece, Rita (Dale) Parsons; a nephew, Joshua (Sarah) Kylander; and his best friend, Dale Phillips of Elon.

    The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2011 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Steve Tucker. Interment will follow at Gilliam’s Primitive Baptist Church.
    The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Thursday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his sister, Sandra Dickey, 3376 Underwood Road, Elon.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Altamahaw Baptist Church Building Fund, 3445 Altamahaw Church Street, Elon, N.C. 27244.
