Mary Alice Shanklin Lewis


    ELON — Mrs. Mary Alice Shanklin Lewis, age 85, of 444 N. Manning Ave., died Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several months of failing health.
    A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the lateLewisShanklinandthelate Lizzie Belle McCauley Shanklin Barnett and was married for over 53 years to William Calvin Lewis, who survives. Mrs. Lewis retired from Annedeen Hosiery Mill after several years of service and was a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church. She loved to keep her hands busy by quilting, crossstitching and crocheting, and also was an excellent cook.
    Mrs. Lewis is survived by her husband of the home; a son, Roger L. Lewis and his wife, Donna, of Elon and a grandson, Justin Lewis. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janice Marie Lewis; and four brothers, Walter Shanklin, James Shanklin, Claude Shanklin and Lewis Shanklin Jr.
    The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 9, at Gibsonville United Methodist
Church by the Rev. Jonathan Marlowe. Interment will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Thursday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
    The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Pandit and the staff of Alamance Cancer Center for their loving care and attention of Mrs. Lewis.
