OBITUARY FROM BURLINGTON TIMES-NEWS:

James Doyle Overman Sr.

WHITSETT James Doyle Overman Sr., 90, of 6611 Burlington Road, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at his home after 18 months of failing health.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs.. Harue Holt Overman, who survives, and the son of Thomas Franklin Overman and Vessie Isley Overman, both deceased.

He was retired from Gilbarco and a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church for 52 years. He was a member of the churchs administrative board, a trustee and Sunday school class president for many years. He served in the Marines during World War II.

Survivors other than his wife of the home, include a son and daughter-in-law, James Jim D. and Susan Overman Jr.. of Elizabeth City; a brother, Robert W. Overman of Burlington; and two grandchildren, Beth Overman and Janet Overman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs.. Beatrice Rich, and a brother, Bennie Overman.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Gibsonville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. John Howard, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Entombment will be in Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina Mausoleum.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the Gibsonville United Methodist Church, 501 Church St., Gibsonville, N.C. 27249 or to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216. 3, James Doyle Overman Sr.
