Dorothy Coble “Dot” Phipps

MCLEANSVILLE — Dorothy Coble “Dot” Phipps, 92, of 1866 Mt. Hope Church Road, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Mrs.. Phipps’ funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Alamance Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Dorothy Phipps was born in Alamance County on Feb. 5, 1910 to the late William Washington and Lillie Shoffner Coble. Mrs.. Phipps was a member of Alamance Presbyterian Church and the Mary and Martha Circle. She had formerly worked in the McLeansville High School cafeteria and was a homemaker. Mrs.. Phipps was the oldest member of the McLeansville Homemakers Club, and she greatly enjoyed flowers and sending cards to friends. She was a graduate of E. M. Holt school in Burlington. Survivors include two children, Betsy Ramey and Rebecca “Becky” Askew, both of McLeansville; a sister, Ann Holt of Burlington; and a grandson, Trey Askew of McLeansville. Mrs.. Phipps was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Phipps, and a sister, Betty Hanner. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street, and at other times at the residence, 1866 Mt. Hope Church Road. Memorials may be made to the Alamance Presbyterian Church Cemetery Trust Fund or to the Church Elevator Fund, 4000 Presbyterian Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27406.
