Obituary Online notes for Effie Claire PHIPPS
North Carolina Real Daughter of the Confederacy, Effie Claire Phipps Whittle passed gently away this morning, March , 2014.

She was the twelfth and last child of Robert Sanders Phipps, a young CSA guard at the Salisbury, North Carolina Prison and Sallie Browning Phipps.

Miss Effie had a bad fall that caused a brain hemorrhage which lead to her death.

EFFIE CLAIRE PHIPPS WHITTLE - GREENSBORO

Effie Claire Phipps Whittle passed away on March 24, 2014. Services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel with Rev. Brian Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Alamance Presbyterian Church cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2 p.m.

Effie was born on November 30, 1918 in McLeansville, NC, the daughter of Sallie B. and Robert S. Phipps. She graduated from Flora McDonald College and returned to teach Home Economics at McLeansville High School.

Effie was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, Friendship Circle, United Methodist Women and the Glenwood Lady Lions Club. Effie was proud to be a "Real" Daughter of a Confederate Soldier and a member of the Greensboro Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

She will be remembered for her devotion to friends and family; her smile and fun loving personality. She was preceded in death by husband by her loving husband of 68 years, Arthur Whittle.

Surviving to cherish Effie's memories are her sons: Robert (Pat), Ron (Nita); grandchildren, Woody (Erin) Whittle and Kristyn Saba, great grandchildren, Kara, Austin, and Jordyn Saba and Fletcher Whittle.

The family would like to thank WhiteStone (MESH) for their loving care of Arthur and Effie during their time there. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Glenwood United Methodist Church, Greensboro, NC.
