Obituary Online notes for Arthur Cromwell WHITTLE Jr.
GREENSBORO — Mr. Arthur Cromwell Whittle, a true Southern Gentleman, went to be with his Heavenly Father, at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Glenwood UMC, with Rev. Sarah Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at Alamance Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Born in Saluda, SC, to the late Arthur Cromwell, Sr. and Ethel Smith Whittle, at a young age, Arthur made a move to McLeansville, where he met the love of his life, his wife of 68 years, Effie Phipps Whittle.
Arthur was proud to have served in the US Army Air Corps, during WWII. Being a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church was an important part of Arthur's life and he was involved in many aspects of the church, including United Methodist Men, Choir, Sunday School, and the Friendship Club. The church honored Arthur with a Life Membership on the Administrative Council. He spent many years as an active member of the Masonic Lodge #694, and served as President of the Four Seasons Lions Club. Arthur retired after a long career with Equifax. He was well known for his special woodworking and carving skills, along with growing vegetables and beautiful flowers.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his brother, Leland Whittle and a sister, Evelyn Whittle May.
He was a loving and dedicated father to his two sons, Robert C. Whittle (wife Pat) of Charlotte and A. Ronald Whittle (wife Nita) of Richardson, TX.
His grandchildren, Woody Whittle (wife Erin) of Wilmington and Kristyn Saba (husband Chad) of Valley View, TX, brought him great joy, as well as the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Fletcher Whittle, and Kara, Austin, and Jordyn Saba.
Arthur is also survived by a sister, Rachel Whittle Todd of Myrtle Beach, SC.
