Mattie Styers Cook


    BURLINGTON — Mattie Styers Cook, age 96, formerly of Altamahaw Church Street went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Edgewood Place. She was a native of Davidson County and the wife of the late Jesse C. Cook.
    Mattie worked for many years at Cook’s Store, a family business. She was a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church and a member of the Mothers Sunday School Class. Mattie was a very patient lady who enjoyed crocheting afghan blankets and spending time with her family.
    Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carnell C. Summers and her husband, Harvey of Gibsonville; son, Austin Lee Cook of Burlington; six grandchildren and spouses, Rodney (Cathy) Cook, Gina Cook (Terry) Wofford, Barry (Diane) Summers, Dana (Rene) Summers and Kim (Wendy) Summers; eight great-grandchildren and 2 great-greatgrandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Arvil Styers and his wife, Peggy of Lexington. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Abraham C. and Pallie Hardister Styers; sisters, Sadie Gerringer, Vera Owen, Ethel Browning and a twin sister, Hattie Hunt; and brother, Paul Styers.
    The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Altamahaw Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Tucker and assisted by Rev. Walter Jones and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of her daughter, 914 Burlington Street, Gibsonville, NC 27249.
