Rev. Asa Franklin "Frank" Iseley
This Conference is called upon to mourn the loss by death of one of its most loyal, true, and devoted ministers, the Rev. Asa Franklin Iseley, who peacefully fell on sleep at his home in Alamance County, N. C., August 21, 1925. He was born November 8, 1846, and was the son of a Christian minister of saintly name and fame, Rev. Alfred Iseley. He was licensed to the gospel
ministry in 1874 and was ordained an elder in the Christian Church at New Elam, November 18, 1887. For more than a half-century he served as a minister in the Christian Church. At different times of his ministry he was pastor of Union (Alamance), Bethlehem, Pleasant Hill, New Light, Clover Orchard, Hines Chapel, Apple's Chapel, Mt. Zion, Concord, Shallow Ford, Kallam Grove, Big Falls, Happy Home, and possibly others. All during and long after his active pastorate period he was often called upon to officiate at marriages and conduct funerals.
In addition to his duties as minister, he spent some years in teaching and was as highly respected in the schoolroom as he was beloved in the pulpit. Dr. P. H. Fleming, in conducting his funeral, said of him truly, "He loved his home, his community, his Church, and was faithful to duty as he saw it in all the walks of life. When very feeble and near the end of his earthly pilgrimage, he desired to preach one more sermon, and thus tell again the wonderful story of Christ and His love."
His remains rest in Bethlehem Church Cemetery. The funeral services were in charge of Rev. P. H. Fleming, D. D.; others taking part in the funeral being Rev. J. F. Apple, Dr. W. A. Harper, and Dr. W. S. Alexander. He leaves to mourn his going, besides his devoted companion and five children, a whole Conference, who bows reverently today in remembrance of his true and faithful ministry, and his long and faithful Christian life. Like a good soldier, he fought the good fight, and then when there were no more battles for him to fight, quietly laid himself down to sleep and to enter into that rest that remaineth for the people of God.
We recommend that a copy of these memoirs be sent to he widow, Mrs. Sallie Foster Iseley, Burlington, N. C.
