    BROWNS SUMMIT — Rodney Lambert Smithey, 57, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
    Rodney was born February 20, 1953 in Guilford County to the late Loftin Lambert Smithey and Virginia Busick Smithey, who survives. Mr. Smithey worked for many years at Lorillard Tobacco Company and was a member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church.
    Survivors include his mother, Virginia Busick Smithey, of Browns Summit; his wife of 36 years, Cynthia Hamilton Smithey, of the home; a son, Gabriel Shane Smithey, of Browns Summit; a daughter, Andrea Hope Smithey of Browns Summit; a grandson, Chase Smithey; and a sister, Angela Lewis of Haw River.
    A funeral service to celebrate Rodney’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2010, at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church with the Rev. C. Allen Myers III and the Rev. Dr. Dace Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church and at other times at the home.
    Memorials may be made to Apple’s Chapel Christian Church, 7345 N.C. 61 North, Gibsonville, N.C. 27249.
