Dennis Ray Doss Sr.


    HAW RIVER — Mr. Dennis Ray Doss Sr., 70, of 3445 South N.C. 119, Haw River, died at his residence on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at 7:35 p.m. following a brief illness.

    A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of 48 years to Louise Kimball Doss, who survives, and the son of Moses I. Doss and Lee Moore Doss, both deceased.

He was the owner and operator of Dennis’ Lawn Care and was employed in the textile industry for 36 years. He was a member of the Alamance Wildlife Club and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
    Mr. Doss was a member of Lakeview Community Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Happy Timers Fellowship Group and the Laymen’s Fellowship.

    In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include two daughters, Angela Leonard and husband David of Mebane and Anna Dickens of Elon; one son, Dennis Ray Doss Jr. and wife Donna of Burlington; one sister, Betty Gwynn and husband Charlie of Gibsonville; two brothers, Robert Doss and wife Barbara of Reidsville and Roger Doss and wife Penny of Calabash; and six grandchildren, Mitch Dickens, Makenzie Dickens, Eric Doss, Christina Doss, Ryan Leonard and Kirsten Leonard.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Curtis Doss.
    
The funeral service will be conducted at Lakeview Community Church on Friday, January 22, 2010, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. E. Reid Dickens, son-in-law, Pastor Dale Matthews and Pastor Mark Tope.

The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie in state. Burial will follow the funeral service at Cane Creek Meeting House cemetery.

    The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
