Lucy Simmons Kimbro


    BURLINGTON — Mrs. Lucy Simmons Kimbro, 95, of 395 Baynes Road, Burlington, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at her home after several years of declining health.
    A native of Caswell County, Mrs. Kimbro was the wife of the late Claude Johnson Kimbro and the daughter of the late James Thomas Simmons and the late Daisy Stainback Simmons.
    Mrs. Kimbro worked for many years in textiles and along with her husband, Claude, was a farmer. She was a member of Bethel Christian Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Circle. When she wasn’t traveling the world, she was extremely active in the community, volunteering in many civic and school activities. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a prolific quilter and seamstress. She was a member of the YMCA where she enjoyed swimming as a means of physical fitness.
    She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Vinson and her husband Ronnie, of Burlington; her son, James Simmons Kimbro of the home; four grandchildren, Evangeline Vinson, James Benjamin Kimbro and his wife Erica, Jonathan Kimbro and his wife Danielle, and Lindsay Jones; three great-grandchildren, Shae Hogan, Matthew Kimbro and Trinity Kimbro; her sister, Lula Frances Ausley and her husband, Harry; daughterin-law, Henrietta England; her brotherin-law, Rufus Aldridge; many nieces and nephews; her very special caregivers, Christy, Carmen and Lisa; and her cat, Thumper.
    In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Kimbro was preceded in death by her siblings, Parthenea Simmons, George Simmons, Robert Harrison Simmons, John Lester Simmons, Pauline Aldridge, Beatrice McKinney Faulkner; and her brother-in-law, Howard McKinney.
    Mrs. Kimbro will lie in state beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, in Bethel Christian Church. The family will be present during this time. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Barry Layne officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
    Following the committal service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.
