Mr. Ed R. Apple


    BURLINGTON — Mr. Ed R. Apple, 79, of Burlington, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington after several years declining health.
    Mr. Apple was born in Alamance County and was the son of the late Floyd M. Apple and the late Julia Ray Apple.
    Mr. Apple attended Burlington High School (Broad Street) and Elon College. He also took classes at Alamance Community College and Guilford Technical College. He retired from the May Plant of Burlington Mills. He was the Trucking Terminal Manager. He served on the Alamance County Sheriff’s Department as an Auxiliary Deputy for many years.
    He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 yearsand11months, Dorothy Steele Apple, of the home; his great nephew and caregiver, Silas Steele, of Graham; niece, Cornelia Steele, of Graham and Elizabeth Lambert; great-niece, Michelle Neely; nephews, Buddy Steele, Stephen Wilson, Dennis Wilson, David Steele, all of Graham, Richard Steele of Burlington and Guy Lambert of Durham.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Apple Lambert.
    A memorial service will be held Monday, March 29, 2010, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Rich and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ken Hall.
    The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday, for one hour before the service. Other times they will be at the residence of the niece, Cornelia Steele, 305 Washington Street, Graham, NC 27253.
    Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to a favorite charity.
