Margaret Elizabeth Graves Edwards
   Margaret Elizabeth Graves Edwards, 86, died on October 6, 2010 in Nags Head following a lengthy illness.

   BornonJune12,1924 inBurlington, she was the daughter of Connie Lee Graves and Vita Isley Graves, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Burgan Edwards of Graham, a combat casualty of World War II, and brothers Romulus Lee Graves of South Portland, Maine and James Harold Graves of Burlington, and her dear friend, Edwin Brannock of Burlington.

   She is survived by one son, William B. Edwards Jr. and wife Theresa of Manteo; grandsons; William III of Kinston, Andy of Manteo; and granddaughter Ellen Quinby and husband Trevor of Graham.

   Also surviving are nephews Jim Graves and wife Patty of Burlington and Jake Graves and wife Jean of South Portland, Maine; and nieces Judy Kimball and husband Walter of South Portland and Sally Leland and husband Everett of Kittery, Maine, as well as several great nieces and nephews.

   Margaret taught special education

   for the Burlington City School System for many years, retiring in 1984. She began the first class for moderately to severely disabled children as part of the Burlington school system.

   A memorial service will be held in Burlington at a date to be announced.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina’s Summer Camp Program or to the Caswell Foundation at Caswell Developmental Center in Kinston.

   The family is very grateful to the nurses and nursing assistants at Britthaven of the Outer Banks and to the staff of the Outer Banks Hospital for their care and kindness to Margaret during her illness. They would also like to thank the Dare County DSS in-home aide program and Visiting Angels for their excellent services.

Margaret Elizabeth Graves Edwards
   NAGS HEAD, N.C. — Margaret Elizabeth Graves Edwards, 86, of Nags Head, N.C. and formerly of Burlington, died October 6, 2010 in Nags Head, N.C. after a lengthy illness.

   Margaret was the daughter of the late C.L. Graves and the late Vita Isley Graves and was married to the late William Burgan Edwards. She was a long time special education teacher in the Burlington City School System.

   Mrs. Edwards is survived by a son, William B. Edwards and his wife, Theresa, of Manteo, N.C.; two grandsons, Bill Edwards III of Kinston, N.C. and Andy Edwards of Manteo; a granddaughter, Ellen Quinby and her husband, Trevor, of Graham; nephews, Jim Graves and wife, Patty, of Burlington and Jake Graves and wife, Jean, of South Portland, Maine; nieces, Judy Kimball and husband, Walter, of South Portland, Maine and Sally Leland and husband, Everett, of Kittery, Maine; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Romulus Graves of South Portland, Maine and James Harold Graves of Burlington; and her best friend, Edwin Brannock of Burlington.

   A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Pine Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Steve Rust of Macedonia Lutheran Church.

   Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting Mrs. Edwards’ family.
