Dwight Talmadge Kernodle
   ELON — Dr. Dwight T. Kernodle, 86, of 1 Laurel Oak, Elon, N.C., died at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Thursday, December 2, 2010.

   Dr. Kernodle was born November 29, 1924 in Alamance County, N.C. to Charles E. Kernodle and Bertha Barker Kernodle. During World War II, he served as a medical technician in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Elon College and Duke Medical School. He also served as an intern at the University ofVirginia Hospital. Dr. Kernodle became a physician at Kernodle Clinic specializing in Internal Medicine and retired after 35 years of service.

   Survivors include his wife, Peggy Dodge Kernodle, of the home; one son, Dwight T. Kernodle Jr. and wife Gloria of Denver, N.C.; two daughters, Jane Kernodle Grant and husband Steve of Kirkland, Wash. and Ann Kernodle Sutcliffe and husband Matthew of Manchester, England; four grandchildren, Gregg Kernodle of Holly Springs, N.C., Bryan Kernodle and wife Bucleigh of Charlotte, N.C., and Sophia Grace Sutcliffe and Poppy Ann Sutcliffe, both of Manchester, England; three brothers, Dr. Charles E. Kernodle of Burlington, N.C., Dr. G. Wallace Kernodle and wife Craigge of Elon, N.C. and Dr. Donald Kernodle and wife Lucy of Burlington, N.C.; one sister, Becky Dodson and husband Dick of Burlington, N.C.; and many nephews andnieceswholovedhimdearly.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Jones Kernodle; a sister, Winifred Kernodle; and a brother, Dr. Harold B. Kernodle.

   The funeral service will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. by the Dr. Ronald L. Shive.

   Following the funeral service, a reception will held in the John Knox Room of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington for the family to greet friends. At other times they will be at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215, to the Alamance Regional Foundation, P.O. Box 202, Burlington, N.C. 27216, or to the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, 508 West Davis Street, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
