Peggy Dodge Kernodle
   ELON — Mrs. Peggy Dodge Kernodle, 85, died at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at noon.

   A native of Johnston County, she was the wife of 36 years, to the late Harold T. Dodge and the late Dr. Dwight T. Kernodle and the daughter of Arlie Harper and Leona Harper Askew, both deceased. She was a registered nurse at Alamance County Hospital for many years and Public Health Nurse for the Alamance County Health Department.

   Peggy was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, heading the youth group for a number of years and starting the drive through nativity scene. She was president of her class at Watts School of Nursing and president of the League of Women Voters. She was active in the Republican Party and Chairman of the Alamance County Committee to elect Jim Holshauser for Governor. Peggy was a charter member of the Burlington Altrusa Club and a member of the Burlington Beautifi - cation Committee. She was an avid gardener and great cook. She was devoted to her family and loved to play bridge.

   Survivors include a daughter, Diane Dodge of Chapel Hill; two sons, Robert C. Dodge, of Beaufort, N.C., and Harold T. Dodge Jr. and wife Peggy, of Tacoma, Wash.; four grandchildren, Alison Ryan Dodge and husband Drew Kerlee, Katie Crawford Dodge, Blake Horrigan Dodge and Delaney Ellis Dodge; and stepsister, Helen Brown of Graham.

   She was preceded in death by

   three stepbrothers, Ruble Harper, Bob Harper and Winfred C. Harper.

   The funeral service will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Kathryn Lee, with the family receiving friends in the John Knox Room of the church following the service.

   The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

   Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

   The family wishes to express their profound and heartfelt appreciation to their mother’s caretakers, Margaret Booker, Deborah Jordan and Laura Garner for their extraordinary friendship and care of their mother in her fi nal years.
