Gladys Vaughn Barbee
   BURLINGTON — Mrs. Gladys Vaughn Barbee, 92, of 505 Westhampton Court, Burlington, passed away, Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Twin Lakes Center.

   Mrs. Barbee was born in Alamance County, July 21, 1918. She was wife of the late Marvin L. “Red” Barbee, and daughter of the late Jesse and Josie Stinson Vaughn. She was co-founder of Barbee Fabrics, a lifelong member of Faith United Methodist Church and the United MethodistWomen.

   Surviving are two sons, Jerry M. Barbee and wife Joan W. and Dexter R. Barbee and wife Joan M. all of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Rhonda Lassiter (Mike), Tami Nianouris (Eric), Lisa Church, Libby Merrill (Jim), Dexter Barbee Jr. (Irene), Greg Scott (Susie) and Tisha Mansfield (Brent); 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, J. C. Vaughn and Bruce Vaughn, and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Hodge, Florine Butcher and Lois Kerley and a brother, Marl Vaughn.

   Services will be held at 11 a.m., July 22, at Faith United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bud Budzinski officiating. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.

   The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and other times at the residence of a son, Dexter Barbee, 127 Meadowood Drive, Burlington, N.C.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 1732 W. Davis St., Burlington, N.C. 27215.
