Obituary
Catherine Elaine Huffman Bullard, 71, passed away at 730 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Alamance Regional Hospital. A native of Burlington, she was the wife of 44 years to Michael Bullard, who survives, daughter of the late Donald T. and Merle Walker Huffman, and the daughter-in-law of the late Enoch Ambrose Bullard and Norma Page. Cathy graduated from Walter Williams High School in 1969 and attended UNC in Chapel Hill where she received her certificate in dental assisting from the School of Dentistry. She worked as a dental assistant in Chapel Hill before she became employed in the restaurant business with her mother at Ocean Isle Beach and at Four Cooks Delight in Burlington before she opened her own restaurant, Elaine’s, in Elon. She grew up at Grove Park Baptist Church and was a member at Holly Hill Baptist Church. Cathy loved and cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them at Ocean Isle, Pine Knoll Shores, and Wrightsville Beach, as well as waterskiing on Lake Burlington and Hyco Lake and visiting Tanglewood Park. She also enjoyed cooking and was never happier than when she was standing in front of the stove preparing delicious meals for her family and friends and serving them around the pool in their backyard. She especially loved the cooking classes she and her sisters and mother took at the Greenbrier in West Virginia and their trips to Charleston. But what brought her the greatest joy was spending time with her young grandsons, Easton and Grady. Cathy was a kind, compassionate, loving person who cared deeply for others, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She had a special fondness for animals, especially her many dachshunds, the most recent named Halo. Surviving are her mother Merle Walker Huffman, her husband Michael Bullard, son Kurt Bullard and his wife Kasey Bullard, her brother David Huffman and his wife Elaine Wolf of Raleigh, Susan Huffman Bolick and her husband Steve of Raleigh, Trisha Huffman Law and her husband Tracey of Apex; grandsons: Easton and Grady Bullard; nephews: Stephen Bolick and Patrick Fitzgerald of New York City, Chase Elam and his wife Jenna of Wilmington, Kelly Bolick Barbosa and her husband Ramon of Brooklyn, Katie Huffman of Raleigh, Anna Huffman and Chad Berry of Boone, Max Elam and his wife Nicole of Wilmington; aunt Judy Clegg of Elon; and cousin Susanne Eller and her husband Bryan of Burlington. The family wishes to thank the entire medical team at Alamance County Regional Hospital for their excellent care. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home on Monday, July 17 at 2:00 p.m. with her brother, the Rev David Huffman officiating, and visitation will take place in the parlor following the service.
