John Donald “Don” Pickard
GRAHAM — Mr. John Donald “Don” Pickard, 79, of Graham, died at the Hospice Home on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at 12:19 p.m. following one year of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Carolyn Fogleman Pickard, who survives, and the son of John Dewey Pickard and Margaret York Pickard, both deceased.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from Burlington Industries with 38 years of service.
He was an avid golfer. Don was a member of Alamance Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Gena Pickard Burke of Burlington and Donna Thomas of Graham; three sons, Rodney Tyler Pickard of Graham, John Pickard Jr. of Burlington and Randy Max Saunders of Southern Shores; grandchildren, Heather Vaughn Bush, Tyler Saunders, Josh Saunders and Arabella Saunders; great-grandchild, Riley Elizabeth Bush; six stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Bobby York Pickard of Graham and George Richard Pickard of Elon; and sister, Elizabeth Pickard Roupe of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David Pickard.
The funeral service will be conducted at Alamance Lutheran Church on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at 3 p.m. by the Rev. James D. Lockley.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
