John Sabert Thompson Sr.
   GRAHAM —Mr.JohnSabert Thompson Sr. 83, of 5452 S. N.C. 87, Graham, died on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

   A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Margaret Stafford Thompson, who survives, and the son of Lonnie Albert Thompson, and Sarah Stafford Thompson, both deceased. He worked at Melville Dairies for 36 years and also worked for Star Foods in Burlington, where he retired at the age of 65. He was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Snow Camp where he served as church treasurer, Sunday School superintendent, a member of the Methodist Men, and participated in the choir. Mr. Thompson was also a longtime Sunday School teacher and also held many other positions at the church. He was involved with the Eli Whitney Ruritan Club and served many positions in the local and regional clubs and was recently honored for having 48 years of perfect attendance. Mr. Thompson also served on the board of directors for the Eli Whitney Volunteer Fire Department.

   In addition to his wife of 65 years, survivors include one daughter, Gene T. Felton and husband Al, of Newport; one son, John Sabert Thompson Jr. and wife Leta, of Chocowinity; three grandchildren, Alan P. Felton and Joan, of Oxford, Jessica R. Thompson, of Raleigh, and Sarah T. Kelley and Roman, of Supply; three greatgrandchildren, John Alan Felton, Virginia Gayle Felton and Camden Thomas Kelley; nine brothers and sisters, Rachel T. Braxton of Haw River, Dorothy T. Bunn and the Rev. Paul Bunn, of Hamlet, Mary T. Norwood and Larry, of Graham, Alice T. Hadley and Tommy, of Graham, Elmer Thompson and Gladys, of Graham, Julian (Sam) Thompson

   and Barbara, of Burlington, and the Rev. Henry Thompson and Marizell, of Greensboro; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and is also survived by a sisterin-law, Louise R. Thompson and a special cousin, Maude Bivins.

   He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Thompson and a brother-in-law, Cornelius Braxton.

   A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Snow Camp. The Revs. Joseph Park and Henry Thompson will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

   The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham and at other times will be at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel UMC, 6364 Snow Camp Road, Snow Camp, NC 27349 or a charity of one’s choice.

   The family would like to thank his caregiver, Lisa W. Webster for the special care given to Mr. Thompson.
