YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Thomas Donald Chandler left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on Jan. 22, 2013.
Born April 25, 1954, he was a life time resident of Caswell County. Donnie was the son of the late Thomas Wilson and Swannie Aldridge Chandler.
Donnie was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School and went on to attend Alamance Community College, where he received certificates in several disciplines. Donnie was employed by the State of North Carolina for over 30 years and subsequently retired from the Department of Corrections as a Probation Officer. His respected service led to him being presented The Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the Governor of North Carolina.
An avid sportsman, Donnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and motorcycling. He enjoyed social gatherings and never met a stranger. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his son, Landon Thomas Chandler of Harnett County; siblings, Joyce Chandler Willis, Garry Chandler and wife Debbie and Barry Chandler, all of Yanceyville; numerous treasured nieces, nephews and their children.
Donnie was predeceased by his precious daughter, Lauren Joy Chandler in 2011.
A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church cemetery, 101 Cherry Grove Road, Yanceyville, N.C. Visitation will follow the service inside the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “The Lauren Joy Chandler Beginning Teacher Scholarship”, P.O. Box 40, Fidelity Bank, Yanceyville, NC 27379 or Bush Arbor Church, Yanceyville, NC.
