Sylvia Wrenn Mumford Smith


SILERY CITY, NC - Sylvia Wrenn Mumford Smith, 84 formally of Burlington, passed away peacefully to her heavenly home on October, 10, 2018 on her birthday, after a 12 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a loving, caring mom, grandma, great grandma and friend. She loved her children and especially her grandkids. Sylvia never turned down the opportunity to babysit when needed. She loved working in her yard, especially her flower beds and was always looking for something new to plant. Sylvia retired from Monarch Hosiery in 2004 at the age of 70.
Sylvia was the 8th child born to the late Maxie and Ollie Wrenn. She is preceded in death by the love of her life and father of her 4 children, Wayne S. Mumford. They celebrated 20 years of marriage before his death in 1977.

Sylvia was a member of Nall Memorial Baptist Church where she met and married her second love, Archie B. Smith in 1986. They celebrated 24 years of marriage before his death in 2010. She is also preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Tina (David) Dodson; her sons, Mark (Susan) Mumford, Tommy (Donna) Mumford and Jason (Tammy) Mumford; step children, Steve and Thomas Smith and Karen Mills; she also leaves behind 6 grandsons, Tyler Dodson, Daniel, Alan, TJ, Mark and Dalton Mumford, and 1 granddaughter, Angel Mumford; 8 great grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren. She is also survived by 1 brother, Joe Wrenn and 2 sisters, Doris Ward and Lynette Hardy.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Gary Loftis and Rev. John Crews. The burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of her daughter.

The family would like to thank the staff of the 400 hall at Siler City Center for the love and compassionate care they gave to their mom and also the nurses and aids of Community Hospice.
