Archie Bryan Smith Jr.
BURLINGTON, N.C. - Archie Bryan Smith Jr., age 68, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011 at his home. He was a native of Ashe County and the husband of 24 years to Sylvia Wrenn Mumford Smith, who survives.
Archie retired from Lemco Mills. He was a charter member of Nall Memorial Baptist Church where he served over the years as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and sang in the church choir. Archie enjoyed music and he composed songs under the name "Lonesome Jim." He played the guitar and had been on the Grand Ole Opry. Archie was a devoted Christian who loved spending time with his family and reading his Bible.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Wrenn Mumford Smith, of the home; daughter, Karen (Brad) Mills of Graham; sons, Steven Smith of Burlington, Thomas (Rhonda) Smith of Burlington; stepdaughter, Tina (David) Dodson, of Yanceyville; stepsons, Mark (Susan) Mumford of Burlington, Tommy (Donna) Mumford of Graham and Jason (Tammy) Mumford of Elon; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; stepmother, Sybil Smith of Clinton, N.C.; and his sisters, Lola Belle Smith of Kentucky and Theresa Beaton of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryan Archie Smith Sr. and Mamie Wallace Smith.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Nall Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Wade Cox and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home.
