Marvin "Sonny" Carter May, Jr.
McLeansville– Marvin “Sonny” Carter May, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Randolph Hospice House.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Marvin Carter May, Sr. and Thelma Smith and was the husband of Bernie Laverne Jones May, who survives.
Sonny retired after many years as a contractor building houses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time in his greenhouse and tomato garden. He was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greensboro, where he participated in the choir.
Survivors other than his wife, Bernie May include his sons; Ricky Carl May and Jamie Todd May, step daughter; Penny Baker Shropshire, grandchildren; Chad Phillips, Tiffany Pennell and Charlie May, great grandchildren; Avery Pennell as well as numerous brothers and sisters.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, and two step children; Jeffrey Lewis Baker and Timothy Lynn Baker.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, March 10, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC by Rev. Steve Gunter and Rev. Olin Tatum with the burial to follow at Lebanon Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 1:45pm Friday prior to the service. 256, Marvin "Sonny" Carter May, Jr.
