Russell E. Gorbett, 89, North Vernon, Ind., died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 1994, in North Vernon.
Born May 13, 1905, in Greensburg, he was the son of Marion and Florence (Young) Gorbett. He married Mabel May Aug. 4, 1928, and she survives.
He was a 1924 graduate of Jackson Township High School, Decatur County. He also was a graduate of RCA Radio Institute, Chicago; Coyne Electrical School; Commonwealth Edison Training School and worked for Commonwealth Edison Training School and worked for Commonwealth Edison in Chicago for 15 years. He and his family returned to Indiana in 1944. He had worked for Westinghouse and Philco dealerships; Dunlap and Company and Alexander Cabinets, all in Columbus, Ind. He was also a self-employed appliance serviceman.
He was a member and deacon emeritus of the North Vernon First Baptist Church, and had served on the board of trustees. He was past president of the Geneva Water Board, and past vice president of Jennings Water Co.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by three daughters, Karen Stalker, Louisville, Ky., Sue A. Kelley, Germantown, Tenn, and Gay Schofer, Milford, Mich.; four brothers, Herschel, Cecil, and Richard Gorbett, all of Greensburg, and Donald Gorbett, Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Betty Letzler, Greensburg; two grandsons and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Gorbett and a sister, Mary Harmon.
The Rev. Dan Barringer will conduct the services at the First Baptist Church in North Vernon at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Ind.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home, 420 S. State, North Vernon, Ind., and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials may go to the Jennings County Hospice or North Vernon First Baptist Church.
