Joshua B. May was born over 69 years ago in Jennings county, Indiana.
Here he grew to manhood and received his education in the common schools, which he attended for a few months, spending the greater part of the time assisting his
father with the chopping and logging incident to clearing out a farm.

Before the war, about the year 1856, Mr. May came to this state, locating in Jefferson county and here he staid (sic) about four years, then returned to his native state until after the war.

He was a veteran of the lOth Indiana. In 1869 he came again to the beautiful prairies of Iowa and located this time not far from Newbern, in English township, where he has since resided, a most respected citizen for over 30 years. About a year ago he was stricken with paralysis and since has been au invalid, until death released him on last Friday.

He was married April 1, 1858, to Miss Martha Williams of Ohio, whose death occured about 20 years later. He was married to his surviving companion about 23 years ago, who with a daughter and two sons are mourning a kinud nusband and father's demise.

Mr. May was a devout member of the Presbyterian church and at his death, held offices of trust in that denomination. His funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church in English on Sunday, conducted by the pastor, interment in the cemetery near by.  470, Joshua B. May
