MRS. JOHN MESSLER

Mrs. John Messler, for many years a resident of this vicinity, departed this life suddenly at her home in Osceola, Iowa, on Thursday morning, Sept. 24, 1936, at the age of 56 years, 11 months and 12 days. Mrs. Messler had been in usual health but Thursday morning she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage about eight o'clock and expired in a few minutes.

The body was brought to the Dunshee Funeral Home in Chariton where funeral rites, conducted by the Rev. Frederick Nichol of the Presbyterian church, were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial was in Spring Hill cemetery.

Sarah Jane May, daughter of Joshua and Margaret May, was born Oct. 11, 1879, near Chariton, Iowa. She grew to womanhood on the farm in English township, where she was born.

On Nov. 27, 1897, she was married in Chariton to John W. Messler, of Marion county. To them two sons were born, Dale, of Jay, Iowa, and Glen, of Osceola, Iowa.

Mrs. Messler was a devoted and loving wife and mother, a splendid neighbor, and a true friend. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, and will be greatly missed in the home and by all who knew her. She had been a member of the Presbyterian church in English township from early girlhood.

She leaves to mourn their loss her devoted husband and two sons, one brother, Charles May, of near Chariton, and a half-brother, M. D. Bell, of near Williamson, and one grandchild, Myrna Messler. A sister, Mrs. Lola Pentzel, died on Sept. 17, 1923.
