Jerry Garland Johnson
GRAHAM – Jerry Garland “J.J.” Johnson, 81, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Wesley Long Community Hospital after seven months of failing health. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Norma Arey Johnson and son of the late Hubert and Lennie Erwin Johnson.
“J.J.” retired from the Burlington Fire Department as Assistant Chief after 32 years of service. He loved spending time with his family, playing golf and fishing.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Johnson Swiggett and special friend, Richard Horner; grandchildren, Julia Hope Swiggett and fiancé, Michael Garner, Matthew Nicholas Swiggett, Nathan Dallas Swiggett and wife, Julie Williams-Swiggett, Scott Ashley Swiggett and fiancé, Jandy Jones and children, Haliee and Graylyn; father of grandchildren, Dale Swiggett; great grandchildren, Grant Hawthorne Swiggett and Audrey Reese Swiggett; and a sister, Mary Lou Piper and husband, Ellis.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastors Bryan Rainbow and Howard Thompson.
Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends with a reception from 12 -1:45 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

GRAHAM — Mrs. Norma Arey Johnson, age 77, of 1915 Meadowview Dr., passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at Alamance Health Care.

G. Johnson and daughter of the late James Haywood and Viola Harwood Arey.
Mrs. Johnson was a longtime active member of Alamance Lutheran Church, ABWA and a retired employee of Western Electric / Lucent Technologies after 40 years of service.
Survivors include her husband Jerry Garland “J.J.” Johnson of the home; daughter, Cynthia Johnson Swiggett of the home; grandchildren, Julia Hope Swiggett, Matthew Nicholas Swiggett, Nathan Dallas Swiggett and wife Julie Williams-Swiggett and Scott Ashley Swiggett; father of grandchildren, Dale Swiggett; great grandson, Grant Hawthorne Swiggett; sister, Vonda Arey Garner and husband Billy Ray of Burlington; brother, Richard Harwood Arey and wife Joan of Staley; sisterin-law, Delores H. Arey; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Haywood Arey, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 9, 2013 in the Alamance Lutheran Church by Rev. James Lockley, pastor. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 12:30-1:45 Monday, prior to the service.
