Elmer Blair Thompson
 
 GRAHAM — Mr. Elmer Blair Thompson, 82, of Graham, died on March 22, 2014, at the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell. He was the son of the late Lonnie Albert Thompson and Sarah Stafford Thompson. Elmer was married to Gladys Stout Thompson for 52 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War.
 
 Elmer retired from the Department of Transportation with 43 years of service and worked for the City of Burlington with 10 years of service. He was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine in March of 1994. Mr. Thompson was well known for his skillfulness of operating a rubber tire backhoe. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School for many years.
 
 Elmer loved gardening and enjoyed sharing the vegetables with neighbors, friends, and acquaintances.
 
 Survivors include his wife of the home, his daughter, Cathy O’Dell (Mike) of Reidsville, Blair Thompson (Myra) of Graham, Earl Wood (Diane) of Lancaster, SC, Jimmy Wood (Sandra) of Burlington; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Quakenbush.
 
 Sisters include Rachael Braxton, Mary Norwood, Alice Hadley of Graham, Dot Bunn of Hamlett, and brothers Julian Thompson of Burlington,
 
and Henry Thompson of Greensboro.
 
The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Bethel United Methodist Church. Reverend Joseph Parks and Reverend Henry Thompson will be offi ciating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the church.
 
 In lieu of fl owers, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 6364 Snow Camp Road, Snow Camp, NC 27349 or Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
