Mr. James Maddox Small
    GRAHAM — Mr. James Maddox Small, 79, of 170 Carden Road, died at 11:58 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004 at his residence after 4 years of failing health.
    A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mary Frances Webster Small, who survives, and the son of Golden Worth Small and Irma Obera Oldham Small, both deceased. He was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, Mt. View Ruritan, the VFW, and Naval Fleet Reserve. He was retired from the U.S. navy after 42 years of service, and was a Navy Chief BSMC. He was a World War II veteran, and worked for AT &T for 33 years. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Cactus Square Dancers, and was a founding member of Piedmont Horsemen’s Association.
    Survivors other than his wife of the home, include three sons, James Worth Small and wife, Sheri, of Randleman, Michael Duane Small and wife, Phyllis, of Browns Summit, and Steven Christopher Small and companion, Dwayne, of Graham; two daughters, Mary Louise Small Garner and husband, Cliff, of Gibsonville, and Janna Lynn Small Davis and husband, Kenny, of Mebane; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Strickland and husband, Evan (PO3), of Buxton, Jonathan Small (SN) of Randleman, Justin Davis, Kenna Davis, Hallie Davis and Bethany Davis, all of Mebane, and Chastity Jackson of Browns Summit; two greatgrandchildren, Noah Strickland and Owen Strickland, both of Buxton; and a brother, William C. Small and wife, Irma, of Toccoa, Ga.
    He was preceded in death by a son, James Maddox Small Jr., and a brother, David Bowman Small.
    The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Mc-Clure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Joe Wilburn, pastor of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery with full military rights.
    The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the residence. 3, Mr. James Maddox Small
