Mr. Samuel K. Barber
ELON COLLEGE — Mr. Samuel Kenneth Barber, 82, of 1489 N.C. 87 North, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Price Barber and the son of Mr. Berry A. Barber and Mrs. Sally Phibbs Barber, both deceased. He was a retired school teacher in the Caswell County School System and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Shallow Ford United Church of Christ, where he was former chairman of the deacons, chairman of the memorial association, financial secretary, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Byars of Duluth, Ga.; a son, Mr. David Barber of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby B. Briggs of Antioch, Tenn., and Miss Ethel Barber of Elon College.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Herbert T. Barber.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Shallow Ford United Church of Christ Cemetery by the Rev. Les Jolly, pastor. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. at the church following the graveside service.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 Thursday evening, and at other times at the home.
