Sallie Phibbs Barber
     ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Sallie Phibbs Barber, 81, of Rt.1, Elon College died at her home Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock following one day of critical illness.
     A ntive of Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late James Gant and Sallie Gordon Phibbs, and was the wife of Berry Alfred Barber, who survives of the home. She was a member of Shallowford United Church of Christ and was a retired school teacher of Shallowford School.
     In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Briggs of Lake City Fla. and Miss Ethel Mae Barber of the home; two sons, Samuel K. Barber and Herbert Tate Barber, both of Rt. 1, Elon College; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
     Final rites will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Shallowford United Church of Christ. The Rev. Richard M. Peterson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be to the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock.
