ELON — Miss Ethel Mae Barber, age 90, formerly of N.C. Hwy 87 North, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Hospice Home.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Berry A. and Sally Phibbs Barber. She was an employee in the catalog sales department of Sears for over 40 years, a graduate of A-O High School, and a member of Shallow Ford Christian Church where she taught Sunday School.
She is survived by a sister, Ruby B. Briggs of Tennessee; nieces and nephews, Rebecca Briggs of Tennessee and David Briggs of Florida, Elizabeth Byars of Duluth, Ga. and David Barber of Elon, Barry Barber of Durham and Herbert Barber. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Herbert Tate Barber and Samuel Kenneth Barber.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Shallow Ford Christian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Nora Driver Foust. The family will receive friends in the church following the service.
