BURLINGTON — John William Huffines, 74, of 426 Huffines Road, in Caswell County, died on Sunday, February 6, 2005, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville after a lengthy illness. He was born in Reidsville, son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth Kernodle Huffines. John was married for 53 years to Ruth Tate Huffines, who survives. He was a farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Bethel United Church of Christ, where he previously served as a deacon.
    He is survived by his wife, Ruth Tate Huffines of the home; sons and daughters-inlaw, John Gerry and Sherri Huffines, Ken Michael and Beverly Huffines, both of Burlington; grandchildren, Abbey and Rebecca Huffines; stepgrandson, Joshua Mc-Mahan; great-stepgrandson, Thomas McMahan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie Lou and Bobby Ross, Rachel and Winford Page, both of Elon, Martha and Bruce Howard of Raleigh; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Grover and Ellen Huffines of Graham, Zane and Debbie Huffines of Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Huffines; and his parents.
    The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel United Church of Christ by Dr. W. W. Snyder, and the Rev. Scott Reavis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Church of Christ Playground Fund, 595 Baynes Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.
