Thurman Vestal Gerringer
Final rites for Thurman Vestal Gerringer, 69, of 501 Peele St. will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Faith Methodist Church.
Mr. Gerringer died Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock in a Chapel Hill hospital following several years of declining health and one week of critical illness.
A native of Alamance County, Mr. Gerringer was the son of late James (Buck) and Ella Sans Gerringer. He was the husband of Mrs. Lizzie McIntyre Whitesell Gerringer of the home, who survives, and was a member of Shallowford United Church of Christ. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, J. T. Gerringer of Burlington; two stepsons, John Whitesell and David Whitesell, both of Burlington; two daughters, Mrs. James Coleman Sr. and Mrs. Dorothy G. Belcher, both of Burlington; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Howard Faucette of Burlington, Mrs. A. C. Mansfield of Elgin Air Force Base in Fla., and Mrs. Buren Fender of Rt. 4, Burlington; one brother, the Rev. Carr Gerringer of Shedley, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Effie Kidd of Greensboro, Mrs. J. J. Iseley of Rt. 2, Elon College, and Mrs. Maude Brown of Graham; 12 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
The service will be conducted by the Rev. Julian Scott, pastor of Faith Methodist Church, and the Rev. Richard M. Petersen, pastor of Shallowford United Church of Christ cemetery.
The The body will remain at Burke-Strickland Funeral Home until taken to the church lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock.
