Wayne Jennings Barnes 

    ELON — Wayne Jennings Barnes , 77 of 2337 Pitt Rd. died Saturday, October 23, 2004 at his home following a year of failing health.

He was the husband to Sara Marie Coleman Barnes  and the son to the late William "Will" and Elsie Galloway Barnes .

He was a native of Gaston County, the owner and operator of Barnes  Hosiery Mill and a member of Ashland Road Baptist Church.

Wayne  served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a Ranger and was a member of the American Legion.

    Survivors include his wife of the home, sons and daughtersin-law; Richard and Shelia Barnes  of Elon, Raymond "Randy" and Carolyn Barnes  of Cana, VA, Robert and Lisa Barnes  of Lincolnton, NC, Warren and Becky Barnes  of Hickory, NC, daughters and sons-in-law; Hattie and Marshall Mebane of Burlington, Linda Diane and Jimmy Wrenn of Snow Camp, Donna Barnes  of Burlington, Janice and Carroll Younts of Catawba, NC, Patricia and Tim Lail of Hickory, NC, Pamela and Robert Turner of Trinity, Angela and Douglas Drum of Raleigh, NC, a brother Richard Barnes  of Winston Salem, sisters; Coleen Barnes  of Winston Salem and Patricia Barnes  of Wyoming, twenty–two grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son Wayne Jennings Barnes , Jr. and several brothers and sisters.

    The funeral will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bill Terrell. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the home. 3, Wayne Jennings Barnes
