OBITUARIES Charles Freeman Somers, Jr.

    ELON — Charles Freeman Somers, Jr.,60, of 7028 Kerr Chapel Road died at his home after several years of declining health.

He was a native of Caswell County and the son of the late Charles Freeman Somers, Sr. and Elma Butler Somers.

    Charles retired from Ball Corporation in Reidsville after 20 years and worked previously for Cone Mills in Reidsville for 18 years.

He graduated from Anderson High School in 1961 and was of the Baptist faith. He was a former member of the Cherry Grove Ruritan and a Charter Member of the Cherry Grove Volunteer Fire Department, that was started in 1975.

Charles served in the National Guard and was an avid gardener and outdoorsman. He was faithful to his family and community always willing to lend a helping hand.

    Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mrs. Linda Vickye Glosson Somers of the home; sons, Charles "Chuck" F. Somers, III of Burlington and David Jonathan Somers of the home; sisters and brother-in-law, Gloria Briggs of Elon and Carol Ann Wade and her husband, Dennis of Burlington; brother and sister-inlaw, Donald Lee Somers and his wife, Wanda of Graham.

    The funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by pastor Michael Karns and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM today and at other times at the home.
