WHITSETT — James Grier Neese, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Hospice Home following a short illness. He was born in Guilford County to the late Raymond C. Neese and Carlene Shaw Neese who survives and was married for 52 years to Elizabeth "Betty" Anne Staley Neese who survives.
James was a member of Mt. Hope UCC and was one of the founders of Mt. Hope Fire Department.
He worked as a contractor with James G. Neese Grading & Construction and was a lifetime member of FFA.
Survivors include his wife of the home, his mother; a son, Roger Neese and wife Diane of Whitsett; a daughter, Lorie Arrington and husband Shawn of Whitsett; his adopted daughter, Marta Cobrecé of Barcelona, Spain; grandchildren, Stephanie Wyrick, Colby Arrington and Jacob Arrington; great grandchildren, Ashton Wyrick; and sisters, Anne Welker and Brenda Currie. He was preceded in death by his father.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ by Rev. Lloyd Spencer and the burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday at the church and other times at the daughter's home.
