James Franklin Payne

James Franklin Payne, 80, of Burlington, died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at his residence.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Dawn Clark Payne, who survives, and the son of William O. Payne and Mary Marcelia Ingle Payne, both deceased.

He was the co-owner of Payne Oil Company and loved working hard at his business. Mr. Payne was very fond of horses and enjoyed raising and showing Tennessee Walkers. He was a member of the N. C. Walking Horse Association and a past member of the Graham Jaycees. During his time of leisure, he also loved beekeeping.

In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include three children, Jim Payne and wife Julie of Charleston, SC, Sharon Maker and husband Jeff of Charlotte and Kristen Perry and fiancé, Charlie of Burlington; five grandchildren, Patterson Miller, Hobbs Maker, Eric Lindsey, Wil Payne and Rachel Lindsey; sister, Edith Conklin; and brother, Raymond Payne and wife Shannon.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Payne and Richard Payne.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 1:15 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Other times the family will be at the residence.
