Betty Lou Loy Smith


Mrs. Betty Lou Loy Smith, 87, of Burlington passed away at Twin Lakes Memory Care on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 12:50 a.m.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Carl Rainey Smith and the daughter of George Patterson Loy, Sr. and Cora Mozelle Stout Loy, both deceased. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church where she was organist for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Bells of Friendship.

Survivors include a son, Jeff Smith and wife Fran of Burlington; two grandchildren, Brad Smith and wife Sarah Ellis of Nashville, TN and Will Smith and wife Avery of Mebane; sister, Jeanette May of Burlington; two brothers, Larry Loy and wife Helen and Dan Loy and wife Betty, all of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George P. Loy, Jr. and James O. Loy.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. by Chaplain Phillip Tillman and Rev. Thurman Horney with the family receiving friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Twin Lakes Employee Assistance Fund, 3810 Heritage Drive, Burlington, NC 27215 or to Friendship United Methodist Church, 4612 Friendship-Patterson Mill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Twin Lakes Memory Care for the care and kindness given to Mrs. Smith.
