Mrs. Blanche R. Somers

BURLINGTON — Mrs. Blanche Sutton Ross Somers, 89, of 1906 Gwyn Road, at died 5:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Alamance Health Care Center after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Joe Jasper Ross and the late Mr. Samuel Edward Somers. She was the daughter of Mr. George Thomas “Bud” Sutton and Mrs. Margaret “Maggie” Bennett Sutton, both deceased.

She was a homemaker and employed by Alamance County School System in Altamahaw-Ossipee School and later managed Western Alamance High School cafeteria. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, founding president of the Senior Citizens Care and Share Club, president of the Ever Ready Sunday School Class and a member of the church choir.

Survivors include three sons, Mr. Joe Bennett Ross, Mr. Eddie Willis Ross and Mr. Jim Dan Ross, all of Burlington; a daughter, Mrs. Bennett (Janice) Williamson of Pensacola, Fla.; two stepsons, Mr. Samuel E. Somers of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mr. Ross Somers of Beaufort, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Harold (Geraldine) Davis of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; 25 grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. James Paul Ross; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Rachel Somers Grant; five brothers, Mr. T. Elmer Sutton, Mr. W. Conrad Sutton, Mr. J. Harold Sutton, Mr. W. Paul Sutton and Mr. Edgar W. Sutton; two sisters, Ms. Inez E. Sutton and Mrs. Pauline S. Simpson; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening; at the fellowship hall following the graveside service; and at other times at the home of Mr. Jim Dan Ross, 1926 Gwyn Road, Burlington.
