Joe “Benny” Bennett Ross, Sr.
BURLINGTON - Joe “Benny” Bennett Ross, Sr., 83, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2017.
He was a native of Caswell County and the husband of 65 years to Virginia Woodle Ross who survives.
Benny was a retired cattleman and farmer. He was a longtime member of Baynes Baptist Church where he served on the pulpit committee, trustee, deacon and he helped with preparing graves for member’s burials.
Benny was a member of Gideon’s International, Caswell Camp and he was very active for years in prison ministry. He was a” jack of all trades” always willing to help his family or friends. Benny was a loving and devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many.
Survivors include his wife of the home; daughter, Rhonda Pope and husband, Tommy of Cedar Grove; sons, Joe “Benny” Bennett Ross, Jr. of Gibsonville and Barry N. Ross of Yanceyville; grandchildren, Justin Coble, Lauren Pope Triplett and husband, David, Barry Neal Ross, Jr. Joseph Brian Ross and wife, Berkley and Henry “Trey’ Thomas Pope, III; greatgrandchildren, Mayci Triplett, Clayton Triplett and Bennett Triplett; step great-grandchild, Beckett Simmons; sister, Janice Ross Williamson of Florida and brother, E W “Dub” Ross of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Jasper Ross and Blanche Sutton Ross Somers; step father, Edward Somers; son, Richard Grant Ross and brothers, Paul and Dan Ross.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Baynes Baptist Church by Rev. Scott Ingram and Rev. Dave Gilbert.
The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
