Gary was born April 1, 1953 in Wilkes County to Claude Jr. and Bonnie Oakley Mathis.
In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his wife Freida Winters Mathis.
He is survived by one son, Joshua Mathis and wife Scarlett of Thurmond; his mother, Bonnie Oakley Mathis of Roaring River; three granddaughters; two sisters, Donna Mathis Howard and husband Connelly, Ginger Mathis Parks and husband Randall both of Roaring River; two brothers, Jerry Carl Mathis and wife Debbie of Hays, Jeffrey Bruce Mathis and wife Dayle of Roaring River; and a special friend Bonnie.
Graveside Service with military honors by William/Canter Detachment 1187 Marine Corps League will be held 2:00 PM Friday September 10, 2021 at Cranberry Baptist Church Cemetery. 470, Gary Claude Mathis
