Ledford Johnson (1923 - 2011)
Ledford Johnson, 87, went into the arms of Jesus on Monday, May 2, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Fort Worth or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Ledford was born Dec. 19, 1923, in London, Ky. He joined the Army at an early age and fought in World War II, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. In 1950, he married Thelma Woodyard. They made Fort Worth their home in 1957. After retiring from the Air Force in 1968, Ledford worked at Bell Helicopter and JP Bowlin. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family would like express gratitude to Garden Terrace Alzheimer's Home, especially "B" wing, for the extraordinary care of my husband, our Daddy/Papa. Ledford was preceded in death by two sons, Barry and Richard; his parents; two sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors: Wife of over 60 years, Thelma; daughter, Peggy of Fort Worth; son, Garry of Brooksmith; grandson, Micah (Jessica) of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Melissa of Denton; daughter-in-law, Nancy (Richard) of Denton; great-grandsons, Connor and Declan; sisters, Iva Tennie Taylor of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Kathleen Wesley of Norwood, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
