Arwana Jean "Mother Barrett" Calhoun Barrett, 79 years of age, of Eubank, Kentucky formerly of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center on Wednesday, May 27th, 2015 after an extended illness.
Arwana was born on February 1st, 1936 in Ferguson, Kentucky, daughter of the late James Orville and Pauline Wheeler Calhoun. Arwana discontinued her formal education to work and help her family as a teenager. During this time she gained knowledge, skills and work ethics that she instilled in her children. After Accepting Christ as her Savior, she became a "Prayer Warrior" and a mighty woman of faith and love. She united with the Church of God faith and could always be counted on the lead the Singing in her earlier years. She served as the YPW director at the Cotter Ave Church of God for several years. She was a Faithful member and supporter of the old Valley View Church of God until her health declined, but she continued to stay strong in her faith. Being a true Prayer warrior, she could be heard in the night hours, praying for her family and friends. "Mother Barrett" was the epitome of a Godly Woman in the Holiness Church.
Arwana was survived by four sons, Richard (and Kathy) Metcalf of Port Orange, Flordia, William "Billy" (and Jackie) Barrett of Science Hill, Kentucky, David Barrett of Somerset, Kentucky, and Mark (and Gail) Barrett of Ferguson, Kentucky; his loving daughter and primary caregiver, Cathy (and Fetter, Sr.) Wilder of Eubank, Kentucky; one brother, Paul (and Margaret) Calhoun of Bimble, Kentucky; one sister, Arlene (and Robert, who is deceased) Whalen of Covington, Kentucky; twenty-two loving grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and Church family and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Orvlle Calhoun, departed this life on November 1st, 1990 and Pauline Calhoun, who departed this life on January 1st, 1972; one brother, James Wayne Calhoun; two sisters, Janice Sams and Norma Cheer; and two daughters, Deborah Phillips and Sandra Guffey.

THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF ARWANA,
If you could see me now you wouldn't shed a tear, Though you may not understand why I'm no longer there. Remember my spirit, that is the real me because I'm still very much alive, I've just been set free. Oh, if you could only see!
I have held our Father's face and I've touched my Savior's hand. All of Heaven's angels rejoiced as I entered the promised land. Beyond the gates of pearl I've walked on the golden streets.
I've touched the walls of jasper and dipped my foot in the crystal sea. The beauty is beyond words and nothing could compare, I've even seen our Lords mansion and someday I'll meet you there. Let Jesus be your guide because "His Word" will show you the way. So please don't cry because we will meet again someday.
