Obituary Online notes for Ellen Christine SAUNDERS
KING, NC ~ Mrs. Ellen Saunders Crowder, 73, of King died at the Forsyth Medical Center on Saturday morning, April 7, 2001, following a brief period of declining health.
A native of Pulaski County, Va., she was born July 16, 1927, to the late Maxwell Lewis and Mary Dales Saunders.
Mrs. Crowder was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in King.
At the time of her death she was employed by Eckerd Drug Stores with more than 20 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Garnett Crowder, in 1992; a sister, Lillian Gonzalez, in 1991 and her stepmother, Hallie Saunders, in 1993.
Surviving are her daughter and son in-law, Mary Gibson and husband Dean of King; her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Crowder and wife Rita of King; three grandchildren, Paula Crowder of Pilot Mountain, Brian Gibson and wife Wendy of Kernersville and John Crowder of King; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Mathews of Roanoke, Va., and Sylvia Smith of Pulaski, Va.; three brothers, David Saunders of West Palm Beach, Fla., Mack Saunders Jr. of Hiwassee, Va., and Sammy Saunders of Pulaski; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the Trinity UMC (725 W. Dalton Road in King) officiated by the Rev. Mark D. Mashburn, OSL. Entombment will follow in the Crestview Memorial Park Mausoleum in Rural Hall.
The family will receive relatives and friends 7-9 p.m. this evening at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity UMC, 725 W. Dalton Road, King, NC 27021.
