Roger Dale Porche was born on October 15, 1952 in Madison County, North Carolina. He attended Woodfin Elementary School and Rankin Elementary School in West Asheville. He also attended Erwin High School and graduated in 1970.
Roger was a highly intelligent person who excelled in school and could talk about any subject to about anyone. He was a devout Christian who enjoyed church and church activities. He enjoyed sports and watched them frequently.
His poor health began in high school, but with God's grace, he stayed with us until his 54th year. It seems he was plagued with his own demons most of his life, but sought comfort in God's work.
He loved to walk and could be seen frequently going to and from a store or an appointment. He would wave and say hello, and sometimes accept a ride, sometimes not.
Some would say he was hard to get to know. Because of his innate intelligence, he was a deep thinker who didn't talk much, but when he did say something, it was usually meaningful.
We know that Roger is where he would want to be now. He is buried beside my parents, Max and Doris Metcalf Porche at Upper Laurel.
We wonder with his intellect and abilities that he could have been a wordly success. But he was a success in the Lord's work, and that was enough for him. 470, Roger Dale Porche
