Obituary Online notes for George W. HOWELL
George W. Howell, 80, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Elderberry Health Care.

Mr. Howell was a native of Mitchell County and lifetime resident of Western North Carolina. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1945. Mr. Howell worked for many years in television repair in Weaverville. He was an active member of the local VFW and was the current president of the Elderberry Health Care Resident Council, a position he held for the past five years.

Mr. Howell was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd Howell, Claude Howell, Ed Howell and Herbert Howell.

He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Pennington; two sons, Larry Buckner of Tacoma, Wash., and Alan Buckner of St. Louis; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Elderberry Health Care in Marshall Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Enka. The Madison County VFW Post 548 will conduct military honors.

Forest Lawn Funeral Home is serving the Howell family.
