GIBSONVILLE — Mr. Ralph Staley Sutton, 86, of 6433 Osceola-Ossipee Road, died at 3:38 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Liberty Commons after a long illness. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs.Claudia Scott Sutton who died in 1976. He was the son of Mr. Carl Holt Sutton Sr. and Mrs. Nora Price Sutton, both deceased. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Albert Gene Brown of Gibsonville; two sons and daughters-in law, Staley “Bud” and Betty Sutton of Gibsonville and Donald and Phyllis Sutton of Rock Hill, S.C.; a son-in-law, Melvin D. Barber of Gibsonville; three sisters, Ruth Rich and Myrtle Walker, both of Burlington, and Ethel McPherson of Snow Camp; a brother, Frank Sutton of Jacksonville, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorene Sutton Barber; a sister, Alma Sutton Gilliam; and a brother, Carl Holt Sutton Jr. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of the daughter, Geraldine Brown, 6444 Osceola-Ossipee Road, Gibsonville.
