Amanda Whitesell Houchens

    CHESAPEAKE, VA. — Amanda Whitesell Houchens, 49, of the 300 block of Middle Oaks Drive, passed away Friday, September 12, 2003 in Norfolk.

    Born in Burlington, N.C., she was the daughter of Vernon A. Whitesell and Lucy S. Whitesell.

    Amanda was a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church. Before she became ill, she was employed in the Marketing Department of Norfolk Southern Corporation for 19 years. We will always remember her as a loving Mother, Daughter, Sister, and Friend. God blessed Amanda with a loving and generous heart and a special gift of creating beautiful things with her hands. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and we thank God for every precious moment he allowed us to spend with her.

    Besides her parents, Amanda is survived by her daughter, Lauren Amelia Houchens of Chesapeake; her maternal grandmother, Flossie Kimes Shaw of Burlington, N.C., her brother, V. Lynn Whitesell and wife Karen of Chesapeake; two nephews, Evan Whitesell and Tyler Yates; and two nieces, Kolby Whitesell and Samantha Yates.

    The memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2003 at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, Pastor Earl Sutton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Amanda W. Houchens Memorial Fund, for the future benefit of her daughter, C/O Monarch Bank, 750 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake, VA 23320.3, Amanda Whitesell Houchens
