Clara Clapp Chriscoe
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Clara Clapp Chriscoe, 91, of Burlington, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Ashton Place following several years declining health and one month critical illness.
A native of Guilford County, she was wife of the late Elvin Lewis Chriscoe and daughter of the late Floyd Everett Clapp Sr. and Myrtle Frankie Smith Clapp.
She was a former employee of Kayser-Roth and Chick-Fil-A. Mrs. Chriscoe was a lifelong member of Brick Reformed Church. She was devoted to family, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, an avid gardener, homemaker, seamstress and a wonderful cook.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn C. Braxton and husband Dennis of Burlington; a son, Aubrey V. Chriscoe and wife Charleen of Burlington; four grandchildren, Heath Chriscoe, Ajay Chriscoe and wife Trish, Danielle Chriscoe and husband Cooper Ferguson and Nicole Chriscoe; two great-grandchildren, Kate Ferguson and Laura Chriscoe; three sisters, Lucy Wagoner, Agnes Fogleman and Sue Clubb; and two brothers, Kestle Clapp and Floyd “June” Clapp.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Lewis Chriscoe and Ronald Chriscoe; two sisters, Ann C. Allen and Mabel C. Wagoner; and four brothers, Luke Clapp, Ferry Clapp, Raymond Clapp and Bud Clapp.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Brick Reformed United Church of Christ with the Rev. Kristin Gerner Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington and other times at the residence of Carolyn and Dennis Braxton.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to her caregiver and friend Peggy Everette, and to the nursing staff at Ashton Place for their care of Mrs. Chriscoe.
